If derby were easy...
If roller derby was easy, everyone would do it. It isn’t. It isn’t even remotely easy. Maybe there was a time where it was easiER, but in modern roller derby, even the smallest leagues have high demands on their skaters.
It’s true that anyone can come into this sport and be successful if they have the right mentality…but it is not easy.
It is so typical for skaters to run into road blocks. Every...

Gremlins (1984)
Gremlins is a black comedy fit for Christmas time with your friends and family (though I’d recommend parental discretion with children under age 10 to avoid childhood scarring… but hey, I turned out just fine… right?) And remember, if you receive “one of nature’s gifts” this Christmas you MUST be respectful and obey the rules.
You do with Mogwai what your society has done with all of nature’s...

Paralegal Hell on the Death Star
This is indeed how I feel. It’s possible that Grand Admiral Thrawn is in charge of this whole Imperial operation …
I’ve noticed a new trend of mine. While I should be enjoying my weekends and days off; I find that every Sunday I get the blues. All day I have “heading back to work” in the back of my head. Instead of relaxing or enjoying my day I sit and dread Monday (and the rest of...

October 29: Ghoulies (1985)
If you’re spending a lot of your Halloween season with some scaredy-cats Ghoulies is a perfect flick for you to watch with them. Grab some booze, kick up your feet, and prepare for laughs and some drinking games with this 80s gem.
Seriously, if you haven’t ever seen this film rent or Netflix it now. It’s one of those critter-filled pieces of cinema gold. So bad it’s...

October 24: The Exorcist (1973)
The Exorcist has been one of my favorite spine-chilling spiritual/psychological horror flicks since I was 12 years old. It’s so very disturbing and full of some incredibly grotesque and violent (quite memorable even) sequences.
The pea soup spew-age gets me every time. Such a fantastic ooky-spooky movie for the Halloween season.
Your mother’s in here, Karras. Would you like to...

October 20: Drag Me to Hell (2009)
Drag Me to Hell is dark, excessively gruesome, and absolutely hysterical. Sam Raimi’s glorious return to the savage and deeply disturbing world where humor meets horror is not a let down.
It’s certainly no Evil Dead but the nefarious and mischievous spirits abound in this flick. Tongue-in-cheek thrills and plenty of cultural and horror in-jokes to enjoy throughout, Drag Me to...

October 19: Trick R Treat (2007)
Trick ‘r Treat is a delicious breath of fresh air for those of you who are like me and wish that Halloween (Samhain) and all its related festiveness were more celebrated. It’s about the traditions, people! Keep them alive - if you want to keep yourself alive, that is!
This is one of the best Halloween movies (and horror lite!) that can certainly be enjoyed by horror fans and...

October 16: Shiver (2008)
Shiver (Eskalofrío) is a fantastic little flick for this time of year. Be prepared for subtitles - unless you’re fluent in Spanish. The cinematography and use of grays and shadows accentuate the ominous and mysterious tone of the film. Santi is an outcast because of his nocturnal lifestyle due to a condition which, for health reasons, prevents him from going into the sunlight. Almost like a...
